The Klingon energy production facility, Praxis, explodes, leaving the Klingon Empire with fifty years of life remaining. With no other options, the Klingon chancellor, Gorkon, opens up dialogue with the Federation, dealing with Mr. Spock. Volunteering for Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock arranges for the U.S.S. Enterprise to escort the chancellor's flagship to Earth. However, en route, the flagship is attacked and the chancellor is murdered by two Starfleet crewmembers leaving Captain Kirk and Dr. McCoy as the main suspects.
